Overview potential mineral resources and mining conditions in Bac Giang province.

Mineral potential of Bac Giang province is generally not large, so far, the province has been investigated, discovered a number of mines and mineral deposits of 15 minerals including: energy, metals, minerals industrial chemicals, common construction materials. Many types have high commercial value, such as coal potential (forecast volume of over 113.5 million tons); these minerals as common construction materials have large reserves, distributed all over the province, facilitating the extraction and processing service for industrial construction, civil, traffic, such as clay, brick and tiles (about 365 million m3 reserves), gravel, soil reclamation; potential mineral and distributed mainly in mountainous districts such as copper ore, gold, lead and zinc.

Mineral fuels (coal): Distributed mainly in some districts: Son Dong, Luc Nam, Yen The, Luc Ngan. Reserves of 113.582 million tons, coal has a medium to low quality. Today the mines are licensed operators including: DongRi, Bo Ha, An Chau, Dong Nam Chu, Thanh Son, Nuoc Vang.

Metallic Minerals (KC kim loại): There are iron ore, copper ore, lead, zinc, gold and mercury. In which:

+ Iron ore has 01 mines in the area Xuan Luong, Yen The District reserves of 0.503 million tons, the mine are small, low quality, currently licensed mine operators.

+ Lead - Zinc: 4 small mines, distributed in districts: Yen The, Lang Giang, Son Dong. The ore mines with poor content. There is only one licensed mine in Hoa Ly, Son Dong district, the remaining 03 mines have not been assessed, identified reserves (including ore spot Lat village, Dinh Ban, Mo Trang).

+ Gold: 3 spots placer, 2 spots primary gold distribution in Yen The and Luc Ngan, the gold spots haven’t been explored, stock assessed, and licensed.

+ Mercury: 1 spot in Van Non of Luc Son commune, Luc Nam district.

+ Copper ore: Distribution scattered in the district: Son Dong and Luc Ngan with about 200 positions mineralization. In general, copper ore with low grade, small scale, suitable only local industrial development.

Industrial Minerals (KS công nghiệp): There are minerals such as barite, kaolin, peat, feldspar. Specific:

+ Barite Minerals: Focus at Tan Yen, Hiep Hoa and Yen The (mines Lang Cao, Ri – Danh mountains, Chua Mount - Tan Yen district, Ngoc Son - Hiep Hoa district, Mo Trang - Yen The district ). Lang Cao Mine, Chua Mount,  Ri – Danh Mount were exploration and evaluation of reserves, with total reserves of 567 thousand tons; Ngoc Son and Mo Trang spots have been unexplored, stock assessed. In general, small-scale mines, average quality, could exploit local catering industry. There is only 01 mine: Lang Cao was licensed operator.

+ Kaolin: 01 mine in Yen Tri commune - Yen Dung district, mine was a preliminary survey, identify prognostic resource reserves of 13 million m3, not licensed for mining.

+ Peat has 02 mines in Viet Yen and Luc Nam district, 168.5 thousand tons of reserves, is not currently licensed. The peat deposits located mainly in the rice-growing land, so there is impossibility of exploitation.

+ Feldspar has 01 mine in Ngoc Son - Hiep Hoa district, 591.5 thousand tons of reserves, is not currently licensed; bad quality, can only be exploited, processed for production of ceramic tiles.

+ Clay pottery: There is  01 ceramic clay mine in Luong Phong (Hiep Hoa) with small volume, no prospects for industrial exploitation. The total reserves of the Luong Phong mine (C1 + C2) was 313 thousand tons, the mine has not been authorized for oparating.

+ Fire clay: 2 mines in Thuong Lat – Viet Yen district and Thang Street - Hiep Hoa district, the total volume was 342.878 thousand tons, the quality is not high, currently not licensed.

Mineral building materials (KS vật liệu xây dựng): including clay, brick, tile, sand, pebbles, gravel, building stone, clay pottery, fire clay is distributed evenly over the district. Specific:

+ Clay: included 132 mines in the planned exploration and exploitation phases by 2020, with reserves of 85.49 million m3 of natural resources, have issued 04 licenses. Clay in the province wide distribution, large reserves, good quality, meeting the requirements of brick production.

+ Sand and gravel construction: 4 sandpit and 51 sand and gravel under the Cau, Luc Nam and Thuong rivers. Total reserves and resources of about 100 million m3, has issued 12 permits for sand and gravel mining. Sand and gravel have relatively good quality, can make material for the production of concrete, tank, mortar.

+ Stone building materials: There are 02 mines (Dong village, An Lac commune - Son Dong district, about 5 million m3 and Luc Son mine - Luc Nam district over 10 million m3 of reserves), the province's mines with low quality, only for exploitation to the needs as building materials, road, irrigation.

+ Soil, rock leveling: The province has 50 area of lands can use as material leveling in the period 2013-2020, with a total area of 349.3 ha, resource forecasting on 26.326 million m3.
